There are great long-term benefits we expect by creating conversational user interfaces (CUIs). (See CAI Value). But in the short-term, there are some risks.

Risks of creating new conversational user interfaces:

  • It’s hard to know its affordances
  • It’s easy for bad bots to ruin users’ expectations for later bots
